Choose the Right Photo
A good photo gives AI a clearer picture of the object's shape. You don't need a professional camera, but a few small choices can help.
Show the whole object
Keep the subject fully in frame, including its edges and base. Try to avoid hands, packaging, or other objects covering important parts.
Find a useful angle
A three-quarter view often works well for products and everyday objects because it shows more than one side. Choose a photo that makes the overall shape easy to understand.
Keep the background simple
A plain or uncluttered background helps separate the object from its surroundings. You don't need to remove the background if the subject is already clear.
Tips for Taking Better Photos
Good lighting and a sharp image can make photo-to-3D generation easier.
- Use soft, even lighting. Avoid strong shadows that hide parts of the object.
- Keep the image sharp. Check the edges and small details for blur.
- Watch for reflections. Shiny, transparent, or reflective surfaces can be harder for AI to interpret.
- Use JPG or PNG. If your phone saves HEIC or your camera uses RAW, convert the photo before uploading.
You can use a phone photo. What matters most is that the object is clear and easy to see.
From a Photo to a 3D Model
Fino3D uses AI to estimate a three-dimensional shape from your photo. Unlike a 3D scan taken from multiple views, a single-photo result includes details the AI has to infer. Choose Basic for quick experiments and early concepts, or Quality when finer shape and surface details matter. The free trial includes Basic only.
That means the back, underside, and exact dimensions may not match the real object. Rotate your model to check its shape and details before using it in another project.
Learn more about Image to 3DPhoto to 3D Questions
Can I turn a phone photo into a 3D model?
Yes. A clear photo from your phone is a good starting point. Upload it as a JPG or PNG, preferably with the whole object visible.
Do I need several photos?
No. Fino3D currently uses one image per generation. Choose a photo that shows the object's shape clearly.
Should I remove the background first?
Not necessarily. A simple background helps, but you can upload the photo as it is if the subject is easy to distinguish.
Will the 3D model match the real object exactly?
Not always. AI estimates details that aren't visible in the photo, including the back and underside. The result is not a precise 3D scan or a dimensionally accurate copy.
Can I use a product photo to create a 3D model?
Yes. Product photos are a useful starting point for exploring a product's shape in 3D. You can preview the generated model and choose a download format for further work.
Keep your models
Your uploaded photos and generated models are private by default and available in Fino3D for 30 days from task creation. Download what you want to keep, or delete files earlier in My Models.
