How to Convert an Image to 3D
Three simple steps to go from an image to a 3D model.
1. Upload your image
Choose a clear JPG or PNG with one main subject. Photos, illustrations, and sketches are all supported.
2. Generate your model
Choose Basic for quick experiments and early concepts, or Quality when finer shape and surface details matter. The free trial includes Basic only.
3. Preview and download
Once your model is ready, rotate it in the 3D viewer to check the result. Choose a download format when you're happy with it.
Tips for Better Image-to-3D Results
A good reference image can make a real difference. Here are a few things worth checking before you generate.
Keep the subject clear
Choose an image where the main object is easy to see, with little clutter around it. A plain or simple background often helps.
Show the whole object
Try to keep the entire subject in frame. Missing edges, cropped parts, and heavy overlaps leave more for the AI to guess.
Watch out for fine details
Thin straps, loose hair, tiny decorations, and overlapping pieces can be difficult to recreate in 3D. Clear shapes usually work better.
Try a three-quarter view
For many objects, an angled view shows more of their shape than a straight-on photo. It can be a useful starting point, though the best angle depends on the subject.
Basic or Quality: Which Should You Choose?
Both modes turn a single image into a textured 3D model. The free trial includes Basic only. See Pricing for paid credit packs, subscriptions, and current availability.
Basic — For quick ideas
A practical choice for early concepts, rough shapes, and trying out different images.
Quality — When details matter
Designed for more refined results, making it a good choice when shape and surface details are important to your project.
Results vary with the image and its complexity.
View pricingReview Your 3D Model Before Downloading
Converting a single image to 3D involves some guesswork. The AI can see what's in your picture, but it has to interpret the sides, back, and underside.
Before downloading, take a moment to look around your model.
- Check the shape. Does the overall form look right from different angles?
- Look at the connections. Are parts joined naturally, without unexpected overlaps?
- Inspect the details. Small markings, thin pieces, and textures may look different from the original image.
Your downloaded model can be a starting point for further editing or creative work. Depending on your project, it may need additional adjustments.
Image to 3D Questions
Can I upload more than one image?
Fino3D currently uses one image per generation. Choose the photo or drawing that best shows the subject you want to turn into 3D.
How do I convert an image to a 3D model?
Upload a JPG or PNG, choose Basic or Quality, and generate your model. The free trial includes Basic only. Once your model is ready, preview it in 3D and choose a download format.
Will the 3D model look exactly like my image?
Not always. AI estimates depth and parts that aren't visible in the original image, so some shapes and details may differ. Check the model from multiple angles before using it.
Can I use the model for 3D printing?
Fino3D can export STL, but conversion does not make a model print-ready. Check scale, wall thickness, watertightness, and other geometry requirements in compatible software before printing.
Keep your models
Your uploaded image and generated model are available in Fino3D for 30 days from task creation. Download any files you want to keep, or delete them earlier in My Models.
